Mechanical Properties of Austenitic Stainless Steel After Exposure to Elevated Temperature

Stainless steel has been widely used in the building industry as load-bearing elements such beams and columns. Many fire accidents stainless buildings were recorded, but only a few have collapsed entirely. These can be rehabilitated undamaged parts reused, which reduces economic losses exposed to fire. The residual mechanical properties of after fire, are primary determinant validity structure. In this paper, effect high temperatures time exposure cooling method on S304 was studied. specimens heated 800°C 1000°C for different heating times (30, 60,90 120 minutes) methods (air-cooled water-cooled). Results showed that post-fire yield stress reduced by 24% 18% 120minutes cooled water air respectively. However, marginal air-cooled clear reduction (29%) water-cooled specimens. Elongation capacity increased with 1000oC decreased 800oC both methods.
